Lip Augmentation

Duck lips. Trout pout. We've all seen people that have had their lips injected with filler. This may have scared you away from lip augmentation, or possibly even cosmetic procedures all together. Unfortunately, the only people that stand out in this way are the ones that have had a poor cosmetic outcome. What you may not recognize are all the people that have natural looking, full, youthful appearing lips that have been enhanced by an experienced injector. When proper technique and products are used, dermal fillers can improve your lip shape and volume in a natural way that doesn't make you look like a duck!

Loss of volume and definition of the lip edge represent common components of the aging process. Whether you were born with thin lips or your lips are thinning due to natural aging, lip augmentation can provide you with the gentle curves and supple appearance characteristic of attractive, youthful lips. The perioral wrinkles and creases at the corners of the lips that make you look like you're frowning can also be improved at the same time.

The lips are typically injected with hyaluronic acid products, a natural substance found in the body, such as Restylane® or JUVÉDERM® which typically lasts 6 to 12 months. The procedure takes minutes to perform, and can be done in an office setting. There may be some mild discomfort, swelling and possibly bruising involved, but these effects are temporary, and can be minimized using proper injection techniques. Topical or nerve block anesthesia can be used to prevent discomfort from the procedure. You can even return to your normal activities the same day.

The difference between good and bad outcomes is primarily based on the injector. It’s imperative that you find a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon whom you trust.
