Winter Skin-Savers

The Midwest can be great place to live – with the exception of a 100 degree weekend in July or a -30 degree polar vortex in January.

The drastic change in temperature and moisture throughout the year can make it tough for your skin to stay consistently hydrated and healthy, especially in the winter months.

At DMG Aesthetics, we offer several treatments that can help save your skin from the harsh winter weather and keep you glowing for the holidays, just in time to ring-in the New Year!

Our expert dermatologists, Drs. Nancy Lichon and Stephanie Gan share some of their favorite treatments for achieving healthy winter skin.

Dr. Nancy Lichon, located at DMG Aesthetics in Lombard, recommends a Sculptra® treatment, followed by DEJ Face Cream by Revision®, around the holiday season.

Sculptra® is a natural filler that is used primarily to restore and improve facial volume. This unique treatment stimulates your skin to produce natural collagen, revealing smoother and younger-looking skin. On average, patients should receive two to three treatments a year, with results lasting up to 25 months.

On top of your Sculptra® fillers, a moisturizer such as DEJ Face Cream™ will help improve the look of fine lines, skin tone and texture. DEJ Face Cream™ will also help maintain your Sculptra® results, making your skin softer and brighter.

Lastly, daily use of sunscreen is a skincare recommendation for everyone. Eryfotona Actinica® sunscreen by ISDIN is a unique zinc oxide based sunscreen with DNA repair enzymes that help repair sun damaged skin. Daily use of this elegant sunscreen will also slow down the appearance of premature aging.

Dr. Stephanie Gan, dermatologist at DMG Aesthetic in Hinsdale, recommends  Botox® treatments and a daily antioxidant in the winter, especially leading up to the holiday season.

Botox® is a great way to reverse deep frown lines between the eyebrows, forehead wrinkles and crow’s feet around the eyes. Other areas that are commonly treated with Botox® include jawline contouring of the chewing (masseter) muscles, vertical lip lines around the mouth and softening unwanted chin dimpling.

In about seven to ten days following treatment, facial wrinkles are smoother and less noticeable, with results lasting about three to four months. Ideally, Botox treatments would be repeated in order to maintain the effects of the treatment.

To complement the wrinkle reduction from Botox®, Dr. Stephanie Gan also recommends using a daily antioxidant. Antioxidants protect the skin against the harmful effects of free radicals generated by environmental urban dust and high energy visible light (HEV or blue light) from electronic devices. Air pollution is also an environmental factor that is related to premature skin aging. A study comparing women living in urban vs. rural environments discovered a direct link between airborne particulate matter exposure and prominent skin aging signs. In particular, those who lived in urban areas had 20 percent more brown spots and wrinkles!

With its powerful vitamin C antioxidant blend, Revision® Skincare C+ correcting complex 30% helps to brighten, firm and protect your skin from damaging free radicals for an overall healthier, younger-looking complexion.
